Mic Gillette was an integral part of the Tower of Power horn section for some nineteen years. One of his greatest personal pleasures with the band, was having his dad, Ray Gillette, record with Tower on the Back to Oakland album.
Mic Gillette continues to make an impact in music. He was called in to add a sixth horn (mostly trombone) to Tower of Power's release, Rhythm and Business.
Although he chooses not to take part in any extended tours, Mic will join his old 'mates' in Tower of Power on some of the 1997 West Coast dates. In addition Mic has taken part Bill Champlin's Reunion Concerts of the Sons of Champlin.
Mic performs frequently, both live and in the studio, throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. Mic is performs regularly with a very fine band called The Fundamentals. Check out his very special solo project, Newvo Kids.

Now in release: Mic Gillette's Solo CD, 'Ear Candy'
|
In Mic's words: "I started this whole thing around 1995, while we were recording the Newvo Kids album. Julia and I were writing some songs that were different from the children's tunes, and the dream of a real solo album was hatched. The five Lodi tracks were recorded during this time, then they just sat in a box for 9 years.
I started working with Steve Finch and Elmer Coles and their group, the Domino Band, back east in Roanoke Virginia. They, along with Rick Milan talked me into recording a few tunes with them and a few other outstanding musicians in the area, and I started to believe I might actually get a real, finished project someday. Well, Steve has been the impetus for it all coming together, and I guess there's no time like the present to get it done. I've assembled some old friends, and some new friends, and some original tunes, along with some oldies. Whatever it is, it's all from the heart. I hope you enjoy it."
