About Tower of Power
Bump City.com

Tower of Power continues to evolve in its music and musicians, from 1968, to the present. Every Tower of Power fan has their favorite recording, song, or musician.

Tower of Power has always been difficult to define or describe. It has been, and continues to be, a fascinating amalgam of talent, playing their unique brand of horn-driven soul music. The most prolific period, while signed with Warner Brothers Records, showcased a rare and formidable combination of talents under the leadership of Emilio Castillo.

With the prinicple songwriting of Doc Kupka and Emilio, and horn arrangements of Greg Adams as the foundation, the musicianship of the entire ensemble percclated with the precision of a Swiss watch. Doc, Emilio and Greg were complemented by powerful trumpet and trombone of Mic Gillette and the soulful ease of Lenny Pickett on lead tenor. The unique rhythmic synergy of David Garibaldi on drums and Rocco Prestia on bass, gave Tower its sophisticated syncopation. The distinctive guitar solos of Bruce Conte and the world class B-3 work of Chester Thompson, complete the rhythm section in full effect.. The unique silky vocals of Lenny Williams stood out, brilliantly, against the force of the band. It is indeed, amazing, that five of the ten members, from that period, are current members, today.

2007 Band Lineup

Through the years, before and since, there have been a plethora of fine musicians and vocalists that have 'held a chair' within Tower of Power. It is not a position one owns, but one is a caretaker of. Tower's sound has had an evolutionary ebb and flow as different musicians lent their talents to the band.

The Toewr of Power Network

In presenting information on the legacy of Tower of Power, information will be offered from various angles. Of course, the current lineup is important, but you will also be able to trace the lineage in every position through the Alumni section. The Tower of Power Network. Every musician that has recorded with the band will be included. There are periods when some musicians toured with the band, but did not record. They will be included, too, as information becomes available.

As well, other contributors will be profiled: Songwriters, arrangers, additional musicians, producers, and backup vocalists. Each person has a significant role to play.

Through all these individuals, you will be able to follow the Tower of Power family tree; those who have been part of it, those who influnced it, and those who have been influenced by it. That's quite a universe of horn-driven funk and soul.

Take any path you wish. There is no right or wrong way to explore. Depending on how long you have been following Tower of Power's music, you may well discover something new. It may not be new, in the chronological sense, just new to you. So dig in.
